What is a Block?

In the Coordinate Sport application, a Block refers to the period during the Project within which Sessions will be delivered.

A Block is usually created referring to the week that the Block will commence and the week it will end. Blocks can have different lengths depending on the type and the length of the project. There is no limit to how long a Block can be.

Blocks do not have to be related to lengths of time. It is common for a Block to instead be related to a year, age or ability group. Please feel free to use Blocks in whichever way works best for you.

It is worth noting that registers are created per Block. So, if you would like to keep a certain group together on the same register, then they must sign up for Sessions within the same Block.

When you create a new Block, the details page is where you will put all the key information (name of the block, start date, end date, delivery address, etc.) before setting up the Sessions.

Example:

An organisation is delivering dance lessons for a school (Green Road School). These lessons are delivered as sessions in different terms during the 2021/2022 school year.

The lessons are delivered:

  • On a Monday and a Friday from 10am to 12am for Term 1 (September 2021 - December 2021).

  • On a Tuesday and a Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm for Term 2 (January 2022 - June 2022).

The Project is set as a course and is named 'Dance Lesson Green Road School 2021/2022'. The length of the course is from September 2021 to June 2022.

This Project's Blocks could be set up as the terms during the school year, as that is the space of time within which the Sessions will be delivered.

They could be named:

  • Term 1 (Date set from September 2021 to December 2021)

  • Term 2 (Date set from January 2022 to June 2022)

Alternatively, these Blocks could be set up per age group as well as term, and be named as follows:

  • Term 1, Ages 5-11 (Date set from September 2021 to December 2021)

  • Term 2, Ages 12-15 (Date set from January 2022 to June 2022)
